Want a quick improvement to your indoor air quality?

Research and experience have shown that highly efficient filtration of outside air before it is delivered to the space is one of the best ways to reduce the level of particles suspended in your air.  Good filtration at the furnace or air handler is also very important but any outside air introduced to the space should be free of dust, allergens and other particles.

Filter Boxes to the Rescue:

Inline filter boxes are just as the name suggests: An enclosure or a box that holds a filter or filters in perfect position to ensure all the air passing through the system is filtered with no leaks or bypass. The filter rating will vary from MERV-6 all the way to HEPA, which is beyond the MERV rating scale.

Filter boxes are commonly used with HRV/ERV units to filter the incoming fresh air.  Of course, they can also be used for general air filtration including smoke, allergens and very fine particulate filtration in the case of the HEPA inline filter boxes.

Below is a quick comparison of our most popular filter boxes.

Filter Ratings - MERV and HEPA:

Filters are typically rated using the MERV system.  The higher the MERV rating the higher the filter capture efficiency.  Our filter boxes range from MERV 6 to MERV 15 as well as HEPA which is beyond the MERV rating.

HEPA filters are 99.97% efficient at capturing particles down to 0.3 microns. That means the filter will capture up to 99.97% of particles larger than 0.3 microns – that’s much smaller than a human hair, which is around 100 microns. But a HEPA does not stop at 0.3 microns. It continues to collect even smaller particles that could become embedded in your lungs.

How often to replace the filter?

The filter replacement period can vary greatly.  It can range from 1 to 3 months for typical homes to every couple of weeks for some businesses where dust is an issue.   Seasonal variations such as pollen season can also affect filter replacement.  Also, the amount of time the HVAC system runs will make a difference. The bottom line is don't wait for the entire filter to become matted with dust/debris.  HEPA filters are typically replaced much less frequenly and a 1-2 year replacement cycle is not unusual.
